Information to Parents re. Swine Flu
Swine Flu [H1N1]v
Our school will take guidance from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Department of Education and Science (DES) regarding procedures for dealing with any outbreak.
Swine Flu can spread easily from person to person. It incubates over a period of 1 - 3 days. It is highly contagious for 24 hours before symptoms are obvious. Pupils should not return to school until they are well and as a minimum not until 7 days from the onset of symptoms.
If a pupil develops flu-like symptoms in school we will call the parents/guardians and ask them to collect their child as soon as possible.
Please impress on your child the importance of hygiene generally and especially the use of disposable tissues for blowing their nose and catching coughs or sneezes. Disposal after use is advised followed by thorough hand washing.
" Please give disposable tissues to your child for use in school.
" Please do not send your child to school if they are in any way unwell.
" If you have reason to believe that your child suffers from an underlying condition that renders them vulnerable please seek the advice of your doctor and inform us accordingly.
Our efforts to date to maintain a clean, healthy environment in school are as follows:
" Provision of soap, water, paper tissue towels and disposal bin in each classroom/toilet area.
" Provision of a new foot pedal bin for disposal of nose tissue in each room.
" Provision of tissue in class in case a pupil has forgotten their tissue.
" These bins are emptied on a daily basis.
" Table tops and door handles will be cleaned daily with a normal household cleaner.
" Suitable advisory posters will be displayed prominently around the school.
" Teachers will reinforce the messages from home regarding respiratory etiquette and hygiene practices.
" Staff will be advised regarding symptom identification and procedures.
" A Short Messaging Service will be in place as soon as possible to quickly contact parents regarding this or any other school matter. [Please return the form as soon as possible to facilitate setting up this service].
