Mr Lynch's class took part in a production of An Chead Nollag, an Irish version of the first Christmas. This was performed during the Christmas Carol service which took place in the local church before we closed for Christmas. Check out our costumes… Thanks to all our parents and family members who attended. And well done to all for learning all those awkward lines as Gaeilge.
Guy had missed out on the Christmas play as he had already gone to Israel for his holidays. He stayed at his Granny’s house for about twelve days. All his relations live there. He usually gets to visit his family about twice a year, in the Summer & Winter. He had to go to Germany first & then on to Israel. He flew with Lufthansa going over & coming back. They landed in Tel-Aviv at about three o’clock but over there it’s two hours ahead of the time back in Ireland. His Granny lives in a city called Afula, but the rest of my family live in Gennigar. The weather there was about 20 degrees celcius but on top of Mt.Hermon (which is the largest mountain in Israel) it was snowing. Jews don’t really celebrate Xmas but there was loads of tourists in around Bethlehem. He was really happy seeing his friends & family.
Sarah from Mr Lynch's class was suited up as a Norman Knight when the class had a very educational visit from a student in Ms O’Callaghan's class. The student’s Dad works in a butcher’s shop and had let her bring in some protective chain mail that the butchers use at work. Sarah tried on the body suit and the glove. It was just like the chainmail worn by the Normans which the class studied last term.
On Friday 23 of December 2011 my cousin Clare and I had a gymnastics competition in Donabate Community Centre. First when we got there they told us to sit down on the mat and wait. Lots more girls arrived and we could practise the routines which we got. Miressa, the head coach came over and called out names to go to different places.
Clare and I were the last to be called out. Clare was doing a different routine to me. I was 1C and she was 1B. She went to her place and I went to my place. Miressa came over and told when we would perform. I was about 6 out of 10 people. The girl in front of me had just finished! I was very nervous!
I stood up and started my routine. I had to do cartwheels, handstands, tumbles, back tumbles and the splits! It was hard! At the end everyone clapped! I saw a bit of Clare’s routine and she was really good! She had to do pretty much the same. The rest of the girls performed, but some of them made mistakes but some of them were actually really good!
Last year 2010 I did the same competition and I came 1! Everyone finished and the little ones got their medals. They called us to come over and sit on the mat. I was very nervous! They called out the Under 9s,10s and Under 11s. I was in the Over-11 group. They called out, “Over 11 .. One-C”
That was me!
They called out 3 ,2 and 1 ! Then they called out 4 and it was ME!!!! I went up and got my Gold medal! They took pictures and we walked back. Clare and I went and met up with my two cousins, my auntie, uncle, and my Mam and Dad. Then we went home. We had a great day!
Last Friday the 20th of January we made brown bread with our teacher Ms McDonagh. It was great fun and exciting. Here is the recipe.
Ingredients
200g of wheatmeal
100g of plain white flour
1 teaspoon of bread soda
1 teaspoon of sugar
1 teaspoon of salt
1egg
About 400ml of buttermilk.
Method
1.Wash hands.
2.Turn the oven on to 150 degrees.
3.Beat the egg.
4.Add milk.
5.Add all dry ingredients.
6. Mix very well
7.Line the tin with tinfoil
8.Pour the mixture into the tin
9.Put the mixture into the oven for 60 minutes. Check after 30 minutes and put the tinfoil over the bread so it won't burn.
10.Wait ten minutes before taking the tinfoil off.
11.Put the bread onto a wire rack.
12.Eat the bread after it has cooled.
